We’re delighted to announce that Chris Dewey has been part of our team for the past 5 years!

Many of you will have spoken with Chris over the years but may not know what a pivotal role he has played in the success of Net Primates, loyally working with us and always providing 100% customer support. Here we give a little taste of what Chris has been up to since joining us in 2018.

What is your role within Net Primates?

My role at Net Primates is as a Technical Manager. I play a key role in managing the Service Desk, planning site visits, and overseeing both ongoing projects and daily tasks.

Can you share your key accomplishments and growth during your 5 years with us?

Before I started working for Net Primates I thought I knew a lot, but I quickly realised I was mistaken. My experience at Net Primates has been eye-opening, presenting me with various challenging tasks. Among my key accomplishments is a newfound confidence in discussing cybersecurity with others. Additionally, I have acquired scripting skills, enabling me to create daily scripts for software deployment and customer issue resolution.

How has the company’s IT environment contributed to your professional development?

At Net Primates I embrace daily challenges, whether it’s troubleshooting issues or resolving customer concerns. The dynamic nature of each day motivates me to continually learn and grow, as I encounter unique and diverse challenges regularly. Our team is comprised of Technicians from differing backgrounds – this enables us to share knowledge and develop an even greater understanding of IT and cybersecurity.

What projects are you most proud of, and how have they impacted the business positively?

I take immense pride in the various projects I’ve been involved in, and one of the ongoing projects is the Provisioning and Delivery process. This project is ever evolving and shows no signs of stopping. When a customer purchases a new computer, we begin by configuring it to a default security standard in the Provisioning section. In the delivery phase, we customise the device according to the customer’s specific requirements and then deliver it to the designated site.

We have a few customers who require extensive work during the delivery phase, and to ensure seamless handover, I have developed comprehensive checklists and guides. Recently, I had the opportunity to deliver a computer, and thanks to the well-structured process, all I needed to do was transfer the customer’s data. The rest was already set up during the delivery process.

Witnessing the successful implementation and positive outcomes of this project is truly gratifying, and it motivates me to continuously improve and refine our Provisioning and Delivery process.

How do you handle challenges in the IT field, and what lessons have you learned from them?

I am passionate about facing challenges in the field as they keep me on my toes and remind me of the importance of adaptability. An early lesson I learned was the significance of ensuring I have all the right tools and parts before heading to a site. Fortunately, I have only made that mistake once when I forgot a monitor for a customer and had to travel back to the office to retrieve it.

How do you stay updated with industry trends, and how has this knowledge benefited your work?

Staying current in the rapidly evolving IT industry is of utmost importance, as technology undergoes daily transformations. To ensure I stay informed, I actively engage in watching educational YouTube videos that highlight the latest changes and regularly read tech blogs.

How do you encourage teamwork and collaboration within the IT department?

Teamwork is the cornerstone of growth in any IT department. Without a cohesive team, the foundation of a successful department crumbles. We foster a collaborative environment, constantly exchanging ideas and engaging in daily discussions about the latest developments we come across. While I may take the lead on certain projects, it’s important to recognise that the team’s collective efforts are what ultimately ensures the successful completion of those projects.

Can you describe a time when you identified an opportunity for process improvement and implemented positive changes?

My primary responsibility revolves around reviewing processes, identifying areas for improvement, and updating technical guides to enhance efficiency and streamline operations. Additionally, I take pride in creating numerous scripts that significantly reduce the time required for Technicians to remotely access computers, resulting in minimised downtime for our valued customers.

What motivates you to excel in your role after 5 years with Net Primates?

Continuous learning drives my motivation. While I acknowledge that I can’t know everything, I am committed to giving my best to acquire any knowledge within my reach. A genuine passion for assisting others is at the core of my being. Witnessing a customer’s satisfaction after resolving their challenges fills me with immense joy.

How has the company supported your career aspirations during your tenure?

Net Primates stands out as one of the best companies I have ever worked for. The vision of investing in the IT team, set in motion by Steve, has allowed the business to evolve and develop. Over the past 5 years, my learning journey has surpassed all expectations, and there’s still so much more to explore. A notable example of personal growth is my transition from being hesitant in business networking to becoming more confident, all thanks to the support and encouragement I have received from Net Primates. An unforgettable highlight was attending an enriching networking event in Orlando, which turned out to be an amazing week, immersing myself in the IT world.

Any advice for newcomers starting their career in IT?

If you’re starting in the IT world, embrace changes and challenges with an open mind. I’ve encountered individuals at the beginning of their careers who resist taking on challenges, but it’s crucial to understand that challenges contribute to personal growth by pushing you out of your comfort zone. Don’t hesitate to seek help when you find yourself in the deep end; the IT community is filled with friendly professionals who are always willing to offer advice and assistance to one another. Additionally, I highly recommend following IT professionals on YouTube and watching their content daily, as it can be an invaluable source of knowledge and inspiration.
