We’re delighted to announce that we have once again been granted Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation.

As is typical with most activity during the pandemic, the process was different. Remote working for the Net Primates team made external assessment more complex and consequently longer. But, this was a perfect real-world example of how Covid-19 has impacted IT Security whilst working from home, and the measures that need to be taken to ensure against cyberattack.

We’d encourage all businesses to consider becoming Cyber Essentials accredited. Cyber security is especially vital now that many businesses are offering hybrid-working arrangements.

The National Cyber Security Centre’s website gives detail on their scheme and why it’s useful to help guard your business against cyberattack. As an accredited business you’ll also be demonstrating your commitment to cyber security to customers.

Cyber Essentials is a self-assessment option. By taking part in the process, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that your defences will protect against most common cyberattacks, wherever your workers are based.

If you wish to achieve the ‘Plus’ element of the accreditation you’ll need to demonstrate the five technical controls of Cyber Essentials to an independent, external expert tasked with carrying out an audit of your business:

  • Secure internet connection
  • Secure devices and software
  • Control access to data and services
  • Protection from viruses and other malware
  • Keeping devices and software up to date

Alongside the Cyber Essentials elements, the Net Primates team also needed to prove that we comply with extra, more stringent and convoluted processes, as detailed by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). Accreditation shows that Net Primates are better able to remain secure from the risk of the more virulent cyber threats; we’re more able to protect ourselves and our customers from damaging cyberattacks.

Ensuring that we’re complying with the requirements of Cyber Essentials Plus is an ongoing process. In doing so, we’re constantly learning and evolving our processes and procedures which we pass on to our customers wherever possible.

All businesses are entitled to apply for Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essential Plus from the NCSC. If you’d like to make your business more secure, and demonstrate commitment to keeping your customers’ data safe, we can help you become compliant.
